7 Quick Takes Friday

1. This week has been incredibly hot. We've been around 116ยบ. It wouldn't be anything much different but the AC in my car doesn't work 60% of the time, especially while idling, which it does a lot of when we're waiting to pick up Amelia. Sigh.

2. This weekend is Charlotte's baptism! So excited!! My friends from NM will be here for the weekend.

3. Speaking of my friends from NM, it's her birthday today. They're flying in and we're going out  to dinner with only 2 babies! Between our two families, we have 11 kids, so that's quite the accomplishment. lol. Tomorrow we're going to IKEA and then Amy and I will have a girl's night out! We're going to have dinner and see The Help at iPic!

4. Pinterest has me totally addicted. As if I needed another website to be addicted to. But I love being able to create parties, have a visual wishlist, watch my friends plan weddings, and keep recipes there. I collect lots of great ideas and then put them to use in every day life. I really love it. It goes well with my Evernote addiction, which is where I keep all of my recipes.

5. Being a convert stinks sometimes. Not only is it extremely difficult to find Catholic godparents for my kids, but there is very little support with things like baptisms. It's frustrating. I had a reception planned for after Charlotte's baptism, but I'm not sure I'll even bother, since there will be like 5 people there...

6. OH! This Quick Takes is all over the place. Speaking of Pinterest, I would love opinions on my "Fashion" board. I am trying to figure out what style I like, and I need some pointers. I will not be able to afford much that I have pinned, but I'm just trying to get an idea so I can get out of my slump. My clothes don't fit right, they're torn, have holes, are stained, etc.

7. 7 never seems like a lot of things to write, but it is. I'm stumped, lol. I need to go clean my house. Have a nice weekend!

Anti-Catholicism, The Pro-Life Movement, and Satan...

I've been watching an argument between Abby Johnson and the leader of the Facebook page Pro-Life Rocks for the past day and it's so astounding how alive and well anti-Catholicism is today. Would the leader have an issue with Abby if she hadn't converted? Doubt it. Seems like that's his major hang up. His attacks on her serve no purpose, but to divide the movement, and that's not something we can afford to have happen.

Lately, it seems the movement is gaining speed. We're seeing regulations put into place, doctors being arrested for the horrible things they are doing to their patients in the abortion clinics, and just an overall change of heart.

So what happens when Good is winning? The attacks become worse. Satan gets in and does his work in the hearts of the people who are hateful. Satan is trying to divide and conquer the movement.

This person claims that non-Catholics are not welcome as leaders in the pro-life movement and I truly have no idea where he gets that idea. Are the majority of active pro-lifers Catholic? Probably, and I have always had issue with protestant churches that don't have pro life ministries. It's difficult to find a Catholic parish that doesn't have one (though I have, unfortunately, from time to time.) When I was seeking out a church in which I felt I belonged, that was one thing I looked for. I didn't want a wishy-washy pro-choice church.

If this person were truly an active pro-lifer, he would see that his assumptions are not true. I'm assuming that his opinion comes from being uncomfortable around Catholics, not the other way around. I've met plenty of protestant and non religious pro-life people. I've marched with non Catholics during the March for Life. I've listened to pro-life speeches by people like Gov. Jan Brewer who is not Catholic. I could go on and on.

His hatred for the Church has allowed Satan into our movement, and I just hope that Abby (and all the rest) can stay strong through what is likely to become more and more difficult of a fight. Because guess what? We're winning. :)

We're all pro-life. Our religion, lack of religion, or anything shouldn't matter. We're humans and we're standing up for the little ones who can't stand up for themselves. And that needs to continue without division.

Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. -Matthew 5:10

Adoration

Last night I had to attend the baptism class for Charlotte. She will be baptized Sunday. While I was there I kept thinking, "I need to go into the chapel and visit Jesus." I almost left without going in but decided to go. I sat there for about 20 minutes, praying and trying to shut off my brain enough to listen, but I couldn't seem to stop it. My mind is always racing, it seems. But I can rarely finish a complete thought.

Charlotte was with me and slept half the time and then I nursed her and continued to pray. She didn't spit up while we were there, which is totally amazing. She has severe reflux and pukes all.the.time. Before we left I walked up to show her the tabernacle and she stared at it and smiled until we left. It was such a wonderful experience, and I definitely needed the quiet time. It's hard not to cry when in that chapel. It's just amazing. I love adoration.

I lit a candle for my mother in law, who will have major surgery on September 7th. Please keep her in your prayers.

Please also keep my friend's daughter Allison in your prayers. She's 3 and battling Neuroblastoma.

7 Quick Takes Friday

This week I want to post a round up some of my favorite pro life links.

1. What Pro-Choice Intellectual Honesty Looks Like
"And if others who share their views are uncomfortable with it, I hope they’ll do some soul searching about why it bothers them."

2. Planned Parenthood Stops Abortions at Seven Arizona Locations
Woohooo!

3. Dr. Bernard Nathanson's Confession of an Ex Abortionist
His story about getting Roe v. Wade passed and what lies they told about back alley abortions to push it through, he was one of the founders of NARAL, I believe, but had a change of heart while watching an u/s of an abortion and went on to be a wonderful addition to the pro life movement. He made Silent Scream.

4. Arizona Right to Life
Our local chapter of the National Right to Life. Resources for crisis pregnancies, help in educating, and volunteer information. I've been volunteering with them for a long time and I love what they do.

5. Abby Johnson
Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life speaker. Her story is amazing.  40 Days for Life has changed the hearts of many.

6. Maggie's Place
Help for women in crisis pregnancy situations.

7. Feminists For Life
"Women deserve better than abortion."

What links are your favorite??

Welcome to my new blog :)

I decided to make a blog that is more personal instead of everything being in my family blog. That way, I can be "me" here, and I can be "mom" there. I'm sure some of the lines will cross from time to time on each blog.

I am a convert to Catholicism and am currently brainstorming ways to put my story into words for this blog. I'm not the best writer, I'm a bit scatter-brained (I have 4 kids, what do you expect?), so it will be a little difficult.

I am staunchly pro life, always have been, always will be. I became involved in the pro life movement when I was 19 and I'm happy to see the tide changing in our favor after all these years.

I am a sinner. I don't pretend to be perfect. I need Jesus and my Church for a reason. I strive to change that which is wrong in my life, and constantly have a list of things to better about myself. I try, I fail, I am human. I don't want anyone reading this blog to think that I think I'm perfect. I'm definitely not. None of us are. :)

I'm loud, I'm opinionated, I get way too involved in politics during election cycles, I spend too much time online, always with at least one kid on my lap, I try to cook from scratch as much as possible.

We vaccinate, our kids go to private school, we NFP, and we just switched to cloth diapers.

That's me in a nutshell. The theme of the blog isn't purely just about being Catholic. I just couldn't think of a name, and Catholic Kara was dorky, but it works. :)

Thanks for stopping by! Any ideas on blog posts would be awesome!
